If you think this is a movie about the infamous editing program made by Apple, you're almost right:
The Final Cut is about a future- or parallel universe, in which the tad bit more wealthy parents are able to implement their children special chips at birth.
Those chips record your entire life. After you die, the chips get removed from your brain and an editor sees through the entire material of your life and makes a trailer oder a longer movie out of it. The movies get presented after your funeral at a "rememory".
The editor sees every sin you've ever made, but has to please the client, so little missteps like rapes or murders have to be ignored.
Robin Williams acts out his role as the best editor of his city, he has already seen dozens of lifes.
For him, lifes have a symmetric visual form, which is also represented in the cinematography of this fine movie.
Anyway, just watch this one.
