It's very problematic for developers to push through innovations in the mainstream-videogame-industry:
Indie-Developers of only-download games can do what they what, but mostly have budgets under a million €/$.
Budgets of the usual PS3 or Xbox 360 games mostly have nine-figure budgets, so the CEOs don't allow creative and interesting ideas, and are for conservative ideas that mean guaranteed sales.
One company didn't care about all of this though: Ignition Tokyo developed El Shaddai, which offers gorgeous, psychedelic graphics and also a quite wicked story.
The graphics have a minimal style and the lighting reminds one of a cartoon.
There are no health bars or other display informations that could disrupt the experience in the entire game.
Here's the trailer so you can get a little preview of the game.
